On Saturday I went up to New York City and got to hang out with Jennie!!! She lives in Connecticut with the fam, but is moving up to Alaska next week, and this will be the last time in a bit that I'll get to see her. I'll try not to get all mushy-gushy, but for whatever reason, being with old friends is always such a boost for me. It somehow rebuilds my confidence in the things I am doing, and reminds me that despite often feeling a little lost, there are people out there who have known me for years, and who have loved me through all of it! Spending time with such a good friend was not only fun, but good for my soul. Okay...too mushy-gushy!
I usually don't love NYC. I suppose I'm not really a big-city girl. There's something about only being able to see the sun when it's directly overhead that I don't super love. However, this trip was SO much fun. I'll let the pics do most of the talking.
I hopped on a bus at 6:30 in the morning and got up to NYC around 10:30. I met up with Chris who used to live in DC but is now up there. Jennie's train was delayed, and Chris had some time, so he was nice enough to walk around with me while I waited. We went to Doughnut Plant, which, despite its name, is actually really yummy! If you're in New York, it's apparently the thing to do. Then I headed over to Grand Central Station, picked up Jennie, and we were off for a day of no plans, to let the wind take us where it would. Turns out, that's the way to do New York! At least, if you're in for a great adventure!
We stopped at Rite Aid to get some cash for the road. We stumbled across this little treasure, and even though we didn't buy it, we enjoyed laughing about it a lot.
After eating at a delicious Japanese restaurant, Jennie and I randomly ran into the Annual Tartan Day Parade! There were thousands of Scots walking around in kilts, and the parade was awesome! We saw lots of different tartans, big Asian-Scots wearing kilts and wielding swords, the old and the young playing both the bagpipes and the drums, girls doing a Scottish jig, jugglers, and even Nessie the Loch Ness Monster made an appearance!

We watched people play Pentaque (a game very similar to Bocce Ball) in Bryant Park...until a random French guy came up and gave Jennie his number and Facebook information. He told her it wasn't important that she was married and had kids, he just wanted to talk with her because she was very beautiful. It was awkward, but pretty awesome! Way to pull out the moves Jennie...you still got it! ;) (Wish I had gotten a picture of him...)

After laughing pretty hard for a while, we ran into a bookstore where we found the most amazing picture book EVER!! I recommend it to everyone!
We then strolled through Macy's to see their beautiful spring flower display. I've always heard about Macy's around Christmas time, but being there both during Christmas this year, I don't know which one I like better.

One thing that has always bothered me about NYC is the lack of green space. At least I found some Daffodils, which always make me happy!
To all my friends, thanks for the years of memories. To Jennie, thanks for adding to an already great set of memories!
I know, I know, it's getting mushy-gushy again...

Oh so fun. I wish that we could have been there to play too.
And she's back! Whew - I thought you were ending your blogging life at post 100. :)
Oh my, what a day! Possibly our best adventure yet! Many mushy-gushy feelings for you too :) And yes, I do highly recommend lending a man my pen as the most successful, yet COMPLETELY unwitting, "move" ever! lol Lets save ALL our pennies and go on an actual vacation next time...eh?
How fun! I'm totally jealous that you guys got together....so I'm coming on that next vacay when you go! :)
Mushy Gushy, yes, but in the best way possible. What a fun adventure! Fun to see pics of NYC but mostly of you and Jennie together! It really doesn't matter how much time passes, some friends are just always friends. :) so do I get my turn to see you next month when I'm in D.C.?
Ok, first of all that post made me homesick for our great high school days. And second- I'm the worst friend ever. Since Jennie's blog went private I haven't talked to her at all and I had NO idea she was moving to Alaska! I'm glad you two had such a fun time together.
Ok so I just tried emailing Jennie and I must have an old email cuz it didnt' work. If you have time could you send me her email?
