My Life

I'm starting out on a voyage,
With heart full and head held high,
To sail the ocean, whether calm or rough,
Out under heaven's blue sky.
The voyage will be long and weary, I know,
But I hope many bright stars will appear.
So I'll sail my ship through calm or strife
With scarce a thought of fear.
I'll stay not here in this quiet place,
Where small ripples blow gently by,
But out on the deep, on the stormy sea,
There, out there, will be I.

Let it Snow!!!

Since I've moved out to D.C., I've thought that "their" concept of snow was a little funny. I mean, the Virginia and Maryland school systems have closed because of a threat of snow. D.C. schools let us out on a half-day last Friday because of the impending snowstorm. However, as of today (Wednesday) we haven't been back. Church has been cancelled for the last two weeks because of the snow. Now, I would have thought, "Oh, come on! It's a bit of snow! Get the roads plowed, and get back to work!" But here are some pictures, and maybe even you back in Utah will understand that 20 inches, and then another snowstorm piled on top of that, with temperatures so cold that the roads are freezing over with ice, really has the ability to shut down a place. Especially a place not equipped with the winter gear that is required for somewhere that usually does get this much snow. Hope you enjoy. It's a lot of white!

This is what the world looked like when we woke up on Saturday morning! (If you can't tell, it's still snowing).

We decided to venture out into the great unknown! However, some of us had to make our own winter clothes...

We finally made it outside, and this is what it looked like up close...

Some of our friends built an amazing igloo...you can even kneel up inside!

I decided to take a walk on Sunday morning. The sun had finally come out, and it was absolutely gorgeous. It was almost silent outside, and really the perfect day for a beautiful winter walk. I tried to be artistic with my camera...but a) I'm not very good, and b) it was so cold that the battery kept freezing and saying that it had no more life. But, I still think I got some okay shots!

This is what it looks like this morning. You can't really tell, but the wind is blowing very hard, and the visibility isn't much further than across the street. (In my opinion, not a very pretty storm).

We are all doing pretty well. Our power went off for about 12 hours during the last storm. Luckily, we still have it for right now...but with the wind blowing the way it is, I wouldn't be surprised if some more trees went down and took the power lines with them! We'll see!

Hope you are all having a wonderful winter!!

It does look beautiful Kim, but I am sooo glad I am here in Utah where the sun is shining and we are in the 40's.

Wow! That is definitely a lost of snow. And if the area isn't equipped to deal with that much it just makes it worse. That's the way it is here in Fruita. THey just don't get enough snow generally to make it worth having the snow plows and salt and all the other stuff they do in Utah to make it possible to get around after a storm. So, when we do get a little snow that doesn't melt right away we're all stuck. What really drives me crazy is that once the snow does start melting it of course creates these thick ice patches on the roads, and they take a month to finally go away. So for a month we were slipping and sliding on ice everytime we stopped at the entrance/exit to our development. Not pretty.

I'm glad to see you are making the most of the snow and you time off!

Will you send some to Utah? I mean, if we still have a couple of months of winter and it is going to be gray and cold we might as well have the crystalized flying stuff.... SO FUN!
